At Martha’s Bed & Breakfast, our story is one of love, dedication, and preservation. Founded by Todd Knobel, a lawyer and an entrepreneur with a passion for historical preservation, Martha’s pays homage to the remarkable legacy of his beloved mother, Martha (Heuermann) Knobel, and aunts on both sides of his family after whom each of the rooms are named. A beacon of warmth and compassion, Martha Knobel’s influence as a devoted mother, loving wife, cherished grandmother, and caring educator shines through every corner of our establishment. Housed within the walls of the historic Spalding House, a grand mansion completed in 1909 and later listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Martha’s journey began with Todd’s unwavering commitment to continue the monumental preservation work carried out by Suzanne and John Rohde. Through years of meticulous restoration, the Spalding House has been transformed into the luxurious haven it is today with a commitment to preserve its rich history for generations to come. Though Martha Knobel may no longer be with us, her spirit lives on in the enduring legacy of Martha’s Bed & Breakfast – a testament to the Knobel family’s enduring love and admiration for their mother.
